Online College Professor
Online college courses are popping up in every university and college in the country. Once thought of as non-accredited and useless, online classes are now a standard in many majors. Depending on the degree you can either take a whole major online or for courses that need a human touch you can do some of the courses online. For these courses we need instructors and it makes sense that many of these instructors work from home.
Online college professor careers are not easy to get. You need to be at least a 4-year graduate and most prefer an MBA in the field of study. They also prefer that you have worked in the field at some point in your life.
The online professor obviously needs a computer and an Internet connection as well as a lot of time. Just like any class curriculum is needed so plan to spend many hours before and during the semester getting materials ready. The professor will need to review books and study materials then create tests and assignments based on the work.
Class time usually consists of either a chat room or a forum or maybe even both. Systems are developed specifically for this purpose. Products such as Blackboard, Web Educational Support Tools, Ltd. (WEST), and eWebUniversity.com are just a few of the organizations that provide online courseware.
Students are graded on their participation and answers on the posts as well as projects and assignments. For some classes a web cam might be required to complete speech or other live classes. Also, different colleges have different policies–where some might require a sound file and others a video; some might not require the professor’s voice at all.
As anyone can see the professor is not just sitting around directing students online. There is a lot of knowledge and time required to perform the job so it is not as easy as it seems.
Some colleges that have online college professor positions include:
Arizona State University
Baker College
University of San Francisco
